Abstract

In underdeveloped regions, especially, to combat the problem of unemployment and raise economic growth, it is necessary to pay attention to the development of skills.  We are going to consider the Lakhimpur District in this paper as the example of how skill development training programs can influence generation of employment.  The study goes into the way these initiatives prepare people with marketable skills which subsequently creates employment and financial self-sufficiency.

The article identifies numerous issues that make such centres effective.  These involve programmes with real world career, partnership with local business and after graduate services, which include job placement and business mentoring.  It also raises the issue of inadequate funding, availability of old facilities, and the ignorance of the locals concerning the available programmes.  Nevertheless, the article emphasizes that rural and semi-urban communities may be economically and job-wise advantageous with regards to the development of skills programmes.
