This study aimed to isolation and identification of bacterial pathogens associated with otitis externa and otitis media .one hundred ear swab
were collected from patients had otitis externa and otitis media .These patients found in the ENT department in the consultation clinic
at Basra teaching Hospital .Ear swabs were taken from both sexes, male and female starting from November 2022 to May 2023 .The isolated
were identified based on their morphological features of the colonies and some biochemical tests . The final identification and antibiotics
susceptibility of bacterial isolates was confirmed by VITEK2 compact system. The results showed that 82 samples had bacterial growth, 18
samples were normal flora or fungi. A total of 51 bacterial species isolated from 82 otitis media samples and 40 otitis externa samples and
9 was mixed between them .The bacterial isolates were : Staphlococcus aureus 41 (53.2%) , Staphlococcus epidermidis 20(25.9%),
Psudomonase aergenasa 18(23.3%), Klebsiella pneumonia 12(15.5%), Proteus mirabilis 11(14.2%), Streptococcus pneumonia 10(12.9%),
E.coli 6(7.7%), Burkholderia cepacie 3(3.8%), Acinetobacter baumannii 3(3.8%), Serratia marcescens 2(2.5%), Acinetobacter bitti 2(2.5%).
The results of the study revealed through the use of the VITEK 2 system that all Gram-positive bacterial isolates were characterized by
their multiple resistance to antibiotics, including antibiotics Vancomycin, Imipenem Piperacillin, Benzylpenicllin , Methicillin ,oxacillin
Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid, and benzylpenicillin but showed sensitivity to other antibiotics, including gentamicin, Ticarcillin, Amikacin,
cotrimoxazole, Erythromycin. The current study showed the resistance of Gram-negative bacterial isolates to antibiotics, including tetracycline,
gentamicin, oxacillin, doxycycline and amoxicillin, but they were sensitive Ciprofloxacin ,Ticarcillin , Cefotaxime , Piperacillin/Tazobactam
, Piperacillin, Meropenem.
