The purpose of the present study was to examine the effect of sandbag training on selected physiological variables among school volleyball
players. To achieve this objective, thirty volleyball players aged between 15 and 17 years were randomly selected from Thanjavur district.
The study followed a true randomized group design with pre-test and post-test measures. The subjects were divided into two equal groups:
an experimental group (sandbag training group) and a control group, each consisting of fifteen players. The experimental group underwent
sandbag training for a period of twelve weeks, while the control group did not receive any specific training intervention. The selected
physiological variables included vital capacity and respiratory rate. The collected data were analyzed using Analysis of Covariance to
determine the significance of differences between the adjusted means. The results revealed that the experimental group showed significant
improvement in vital capacity and a significant reduction in respiratory rate compared to the control group. The control group did not exhibit
any notable changes. It is concluded that sandbag training has a positive and significant effect on physiological variables and can be
effectively incorporated into training programs to enhance the performance of school volleyball players.
